AC-130 Gunship 1/72 Italereli

Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures in this post. My camera is messing up.

I built this AC130 gunship a few weeks ago and I have to say I enjoyed building it. First I sprayed a layer of Gunship Grey spray paint on it. I then built the model, painting interior parts as I went on.

The interior of the plane consists of the cockpit and the cargo area. The doors on the back can open and close if built right. The cannons at the back of the aircraft can move up and down and the propellers turn.

I find it interesting how an aircraft with propellers can still be used in military operations. But when your most likely to be shot down by a ground based RPG, it probably isn't a concern fro the brave men and women who operate this aircraft.

I'm assuming that in a combat zone with hostile aircraft, this plane would be escorted because it technically is a bomber. The aircraft is used to deliver high explosives onto targets that are heavily fortified, or as support for troopers or tanks on the ground. It is basically a guardian angel if you are a soldier entering an area that is "over populated" by the enemy. This aircraft isn't just an aerial attack plane; because of the fact that it is high off the ground and circles around enemy positions, it is also a pretty good recon plane to let those on the ground know where the enemy is hiding.

The aircraft has a very long history. It starts at practically the same time the history of the C130 starts. The plane first saw action in Vietnam where it played a very important role. Apart from it's usual role as the thumb of God, the aircraft also used some of the very first laser designator technology for other aircraft to guide "smart" bombs directly onto their targets.

During Vietnam, it also helped support the retreat of the US ground forces before South Vietnam fell to the Communist north.

During Operation desert shield, the AC-130 gunship played a vital role in defending allied territory from the Iraqi war machine. With the help of the gunships, the Iraqi war machine was stopped and this led to desert storm, where territory taken from the allied nations would be restored.

Since then, the AC-130 Gunship has had a long history of involvement in UN operations in Europe and Africa including Somalia, Bosnia, Haiti, Liberia and Albania.

AC130 gunships are currently in use over Afghanistan for operation: Enduring Freedom. They were also present during the Occupation of Iraq. In Iraq, the gunships were constantly in the air to support personnel on the ground.

If I were in the military and was on the ground in a tight spot, I know I would definitely want one of these coming to the rescue. This model may be expensive, but the end result looks amazing. This is the first aircraft that I truly used my spray paint on, and now I mainly use spray paint. I recommend that if you are building a model, whether big or small, that you use spray. Use paint and brush for the smaller parts.

Sorry for the inactivity

Hello everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, things are just a little hectic right now. I will be posting a review very very soon, and I trust many will enjoy it. I will also be adding some new things to the model reviews, like how I painted it, how I got things to stay together and what kind of glue I used.

Thanks to all who have visited the blog thus far
